by Jeff Riegel for Ripple Training
Ripple Timelines is called “the world’s first effect designed for FCPX that moves your videos through time.” It is a collection of eight terrific looking animated transitions effects that create highly customizable timelines to incorporate into your projects. It’s especially handy in your business, biographical, documentary, or wedding videos, for example.
The powerful and unique Director’s View gives you an overall view of the transition complete with informative text, guides and onscreen controls for adjusting the layout of the transition video clips and drop zones. These drop zones can be disabled or enabled with a simple checkbox.
You can adjust just about everything of each transition including background graphics, colors, and fonts. Choose from a number of preset animation styles then alter them to your liking to completely change the look, framing and timing of each transition to make it your own. The user interface is straightforward and simple to figure out, but a Quicktips checkbox is helpful for first-time help as well as the nice online manual.
You can freeze transitions and add built-in text effects, or even use Ripple Callouts (sold separately) to add even more panache to your videos.
Transitional effects in the FCPX browser window include Calendar, Event, History, Milestones, Momentum, Passage, Progress, and Sequence. Some maps even have a 3-D look to them!
The Camera View allows you to change the parameters of the actual animation including all font characteristics (choice, size, and color) and the color or each individual part of the animation effect to your specifications. The background can either be a solid, gradient or your own image via an image drop zone.
Save time and add an extra visual flare to your projects that require some sort of chronological order by using Ripple Timelines. As always, a free trial is available through the free download of Noise Industries’ FxFactory.
Special thanks to Noise Industries and Zazil Media Group for allowing me the opportunity to spend time with their fine products and to share my take on them all. Come back tomorrow when I describe my time with Punchline by SUGARfx.
