I have an older 2010 iMac that I recently changed out for a better faster model. It was great for its time, but I now pass it on to my kids in hopes that they can learn from it. My one gripe in recent years has been that the internal fans continue to run a near full speed even tho the thing is at rest. Even now, it sits behind me at their desk revving up for long periods of time with the occasional short break a few times a day. Yes, I could research the web for possible fixes and alterations, but I just don’t have the time. Until today when my IT guy mentioned this free software that allows you to alter one or all the internal fans to any RPM or temperature aside from the computer’s default (any mac will do, including my old iMac)
As you see from the screenshots below, you’re allowed a wide variety of preferences to choose from. Once you set you parameters, just wait until you hear your fans rev up (or slow down in my case).
Do you work a lot with you laptop in your lap? Its getting kinda hot down there, isn’t it? Increase you fan speed just a bit to increase the airflow and cool it down.
Hey– and it’s free to use and checkout. Don’t like it? Just uninstall. But it did the trick for me. Now I can work in peace!
