Dead pixels, stuck pixels, bad pixel, burnt pixels, hot pixels… there are lots of types of damaged pixels and they’re annoying. Here are several ways you can repair them.

Damaged Pixels

Introduction: What is a Damaged Pixel?

First, lets get semantics out of the way. The term damaged pixel refers to several types of damage that can be recorded on a camera. The damaged pixels I’m referring to in this article are often caused by damage to a camera with CCDs or CMOS sensors. The damaged pixels can be white, black or sometimes even colored, but they are caused by different problems. I’ll try to explain this as simply as possible.

Dead pixels or burnt pixels happen when all three sub pixels (red, green and blue) are permanently turned off in the camera. They show up as black in the footage.

A hot pixel is when all three sub pixels are turned on, showing up as a white pixel in footage.

A stuck pixel is when one of the three sub pixels are turned on, so it can show up as red, green or blue.

You can also experience what could look like damaged pixels if the sensor is dusty or dirty. In that case, get your camera cleaned professionally. You can risk serious damage to the camera if you’re swabbing the sensor when shutter’s curtain or mirror closes. If you’re seeing out of focus areas, this may be caused by a dirty lens.

Here’s an eHow video on dead pixels.

About Ghostery™

Be a web detective.

Ghostery is your window into the invisible web – tags, web bugs, pixels and beacons that are included on web pages in order to get an idea of your online behavior.

Ghostery tracks over 1,200 trackers and gives you a roll-call of the ad networks, behavioral data providers, web publishers, and other companies interested in your activity.

Build an information foundation.

Each of the over 1,200 companies has a profile that will help you learn more about their technology, their business, and their privacy policies.

At Ghostery, we believe in enabling informed decisions about your control over your online privacy. The more you learn about the companies trading your online behavioral data, the better you can make decisions about how to control your exposure to those companies.

Ghostery allows zero-tolerance blocking of anything ad related, complete (visible) open communication with ad companies, or countless measures in between – determined by you, the informed web user.

Get in Control.

Choose to block – or not. You get control at a company level – are there some marketers you trust, but others you’d rather turn away? Ghostery lets you open the valve of your web behavior as wide or as narrow as you’d prefer.

Download Ghostery now, or review our Ghostery FAQ for more information.

Welcome to the Ghostery™ Download Center!

1.  Worried about your security on the PC or Mac?

Checkout this link below and it does complete scans on your PC or Mac and reports back what it found. Most Macs should look good as Macs do have good security built in, if you have it all enabled properly.
The scans provides a valuable service by telling you about some internet vulnerabilities. The scans are free.Go to the following Web site https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and
click on Proceed.

Scroll down until you see the box with the heading ShieldsUP Services. There
are 5 buttons in a row across, just below the heading. Each one of the
buttons in that box provides a scan of your PC ports and reports on their
condition.

2.  Tracking plugin for all Browsers called Ghostery.  Here is the URL for Ghostery ” http://www.ghostery.com/download “, install the plugin and you will be surprised about how many places are attempting to track your every move on the internet.  Actually, they were tracking you before using this plugin, which may help explain those spam emails targeted at you based on your web searches.  They also have a free app for the Iphone which may be a good idea.
Once installed, you will see a little purple box in the upper right corner of the browser window for every page you visit, listing all the tracking places that you have now blocked.
See (PURPLE) example pict below, where I went to Mac Surfer.com and tigerdirect.com.
